A different practice experience

This week in rehearsal we were missing our MD, Alberto, as he had a musical engagement in Barcelona.  However we were rehearsed by Carlo (Alberto’s son)  who sped down from St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh in order to put us through our paces.

Although still a final year ‘pupil’ at St Mary’s, Carlo is rapidly forging a musical career of his own , with harpsichord recitals, dealing with church organs that refuse to behave, taking part in singing master classes, as well as visiting Cambridge University and planning his next year of organ music in Paris.

We were kept on our toes with Carlo’s conducting, accompanied by Marian on the piano and  it was good to receive different input on the choruses of Mendelssohn’s Elijah  with hints about tone, rather than dynamics, consonants to be heard and to sing in unison then in canon.

Well done, Carlo, much appreciated.   You worked us as hard as your Dad!
