St Anne’s 16th May
St Anne’s Church on Westgate in Dunbar is the venue of our Spring Concert at 7:30pm on 16th May. Programmes cost £15 (students free) and should be bought on the door (cash only).
The concert starts with a piece by César Franck. A brief setting of the penitential text “Domine, non secundum peccata nostra” (“Lord, not according to our sins”) combines sombre introspection with Franck’s warm, chromatic harmonies. Modest in scale but rich in expression, it captures the quiet devotional intensity characteristic of his sacred music.
Carlo Massimo has come home from the Conservatoire de Paris to accompany us on the organ and he will play another piece by Franck, Pièce héroïque.
The main item in the programme, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem offers one of the most luminous and comforting sound worlds in choral music — a work of deep serenity, radiant beauty, and quiet emotional power. Its flowing Gregorian-inspired melodies and glowing harmonies create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and transcendent. This is a rare chance to experience a masterpiece that leaves audiences profoundly moved and uplifted.
Join us for an evening where music becomes a moment of peace; it’s a performance you won’t want to miss.
